GLASGOW — The Glasgow City Council is expected to vote soon on several appointments to local boards, commissions and city government jobs put forth by Mayor Henry Royse.

The meeting, slated for Jan. 9, will be the first of the year for the new mayor and the nine councilmembers. Max Marion is the lone newcomer to the group of city legislators. The other eight served last term, too. Those members include Joe Trigg, Terry Bunnell, Freddie Norris, Marna Kirkpatrick, James “Happy” Neal, Marna Kirkpatrick, Patrick Gaunce, and Chasity Lowery.

Many of those who worked under former Glasgow Mayor Harold Armstrong’s administration will return with the exception of the city attorney. Royse has nominated Rich Alexander to serve as the city attorney. He previously served as counsel under former Mayor Dick Doty’s administration.

Mona Simmons is being put forth as the city clerk. She currently holds the position. Her husband Roger Simmons will also keep his post as the superintendent of the Glasgow Department of Public Works.

In the city’s finance department, Stephanie Garrett will remain as the treasurer. Maddie Griffin will work as a finance officer. Joe Lascala, the former finance officer, no longer works with the city, WCLU News has learned.

Brandon Kerney will remain as the city’s Alcoholic Beverage Control license inspector.

Jennifer Arbogast will remain in her post as chief of police in Glasgow. William Rock will also keep his job as fire chief.

Lincoln Bell will work as the city engineer, according to the latest listing of appointments to be considered at the council’s first meeting.

Garland Gilliam, who was hired by the Barren Fiscal Court, will serve as the Glasgow/Barren County Emergency Management Director. Deputies Marcus Thurman and Anita May will join as deputy directors. The city council also pays a portion of those salaries.
