Windell James Carter, 92, of Tompkinsville, KY passed away Wednesday, January 4th, at Monroe County Medical Center.
Windell was born in Tompkinsville, KY on August 27, 1930, a son of the late Gladys (Pickerell) and Earl Railey Carter.
On July 9, 1950, he married Geraldine Turner in Franklin, KY.
He was a graduate of Tompkinsville High School Class of 1948. He served in the United States Air Force. Windell was employed at Texas Eastern for 33 years before retirement. He was a member of Tompkinsville First Baptist Church for 62 years. He also was a member of the Masonic lodge for 62 years. During his life, Windell served the people of Monroe County by being on Tompkinsville City Council for one term, Monroe County School Board for one term and was the mayor of Tompkinsville for two terms.
Windell is survived by his wife of 72 years, Geraldine Carter, of Tompkinsville, KY; a son, Paul Carter, of Bangkok, Thailand; two grandchildren, Lindsey Carter and Brock Carter and one great grandson, Brockman Turner Carter.
Windell is also survived by two sisters, Judy Baxter, and husband, Joe Benton, of Tompkinsville, KY and June Robbins, of South Carolina, and one sister-in-law, Willodean Carter, of Tompkinsville, KY.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Douglas Carter, Dr. Levonne Carter, and his wife, Idell, sister, Gene Payne, and husband, Dr. James and brother-in-law, Peter Robbins.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 9th at Monroe County Memorial Lawn Mausoleum.
