GLASGOW — Glasgow High football player Chase Starr signed a letter of intent Friday to play with the University of the Cumberlands.

Starr has played football for four years. During that time, he was named to the 2021 SKY Conference Second Team Defense, and the 2022 SKY Conference First Team Defense. He was also a part of the 2020 and 2021 District Championship teams and was named to the 2021 Regional Championship team.

“I need to improve on my skills, my strength, my mobility and just knowing what I need to do to get the job done,” Starr said.

Starr suffered injuries during his career while at Glasgow High. Football staff at the University of the Cumberlands hope to work with Starr on their team’s defensive line, he said.

“He’s not afraid of work, and he’s not afraid to get in there and mix it up,” said Glasgow High football coach, Jeff Garmon. “Those are the type of kids we need in our program, and those are the type of kids you can win with. That’s why we’ve had a lot of success over his four years while he’s been here.”

Garmon, an alumnus of the University of the Cumberlands, further described Starr as a “tough and hard-nosed kid.” Other athletic staff at the school detailed how Starr’s commitment to teamwork has taken him far while at Glasgow High.

“I have no doubt that Chase will continue his success and represent Glasgow well at the University of the Cumberlands, both in the classroom and on the football field,” said GHS Athletic Director Bailey Alexander Garmon.

Starr said he hopes to be a project manager in construction someday.
