Leonard Clifton Smith, age 86, of Park City, departed this life on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Tri-Star Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. He was working on his farm, doing what he loved most, took a fall from a ladder and wasn’t able to recover. The Barren County native was born on May 15, 1936 to the late Robert Leonard and Ruby Lee Tapscott Smith. He was married for sixty-six years to Irene Phillips Smith, until they were parted by her passing on November 14, 2022.
Leonard worked hard, and had enjoyed farming on his farm in Park City for over fifty years. He retired from Barren County School System after driving a school bus for forty-one years. In 2015, he was awarded the KATP award for the best school bus driver in Kentucky. He never met a stranger, enjoyed talking to everyone and was a friend and neighbor to all those who knew him.
He leaves to honor his memory— his son, Jeff Smith (Debbie) of Smiths Grove; daughters, Betty Smith and Peggy Carey of Park City; grandchildren, Josh Smith (Jamie), Shannon Smith (Andrew Greenhaw) and Amanda Smith (Josh Bell); bonus grandchildren, Josh and Chelsea Whitlow, Derik James and Jennifer Halcomb (Jerry); several great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Smith (Dorothy) of Payneville and sisters, Leattia Huff, Joyce Hester and Derenda Jones (Paul) all of Park City. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Mikel and James Smith and sister, Martha Ann Poynter.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
