James “Roger” Childress passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023. He was born on April 23, 1952 to Floyd Childress of Mammoth Cave, who survives and the late Christine Priddy Childress. He was raised in the Mammoth Cave area of Edmonson County. He graduated from Edmonson County High School in 1970 and moved to Louisville where he worked as a union member for the L&N and CSX Railroads for almost 40 years. He was a member of Union Light Missionary Baptist Church and loved canoeing, fishing, and more recently, working on his family farm and taking care of his father.
He was preceded in death by a son, Keith Childress; and two brothers, Garry Childress & Glenn Childress.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 21 at Gravil Funeral Home in Brownsville, KY.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Childress of Mammoth Cave; a daughter, Natalee Frie (Colin Yoder) of Eau Claire, WI, his father, Floyd Childress, of Mammoth Cave; grandchildren Caroline and Carson Frie of Eau Claire; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
