New May Arrivals announced in June — Emily Dianne Napier, Jordan Lee Whitney, Harley Wade Headrick, Jennifer Leigh Mayes, Mark Andrew Reynolds, Dustin Elliott Hagan, Haley Beth Crow, and William Derek Saltsman.

June 5, 1983 —

Faye Welsh is the Employee of the Year at Barren County Health Care Center.

June 6, 1983 —

Scott Beard of Louisville wins the C G Follis Invitational Golf Tournament.

June 7, 1983 —

Wendell Brown is hired to coach Allen County Scottsville boys’ basketball. He recently resigned his coaching duties at Barren County High School.

June 9, 1983 –

Park City State Bank is robbed yesterday morning and thieves appear to have netted $5-6000. The bank’s four employees, Joe Perkins, Evelyn Bailey, Jane Davidson and Roger Martin were unharmed.

June 12, 1983 –

Plans are announced to open “The Fish Net” —  Glasgow’s first young adult Christian oriented gathering places. Richard Spears is the manager.

“Harvey” opens for the 7ᵗh season at Horse Cave Theater. Actor Walter Rhodes is the title character.

June 13, 1983 —

June Dairy Day Festival is held at the Strader Farm near Hiseville.

June 14, 1983 –

Robert S Follis retires as office manger of the Barren County ASCS, having served for the past 25 years.

June 15, 1983 –

Glasgow/Barren County Jaycees Fair will be June 20-25  at the Barren County Speedway on Hwy. 68-80, west of Glasgow.

21 Barren County Historic Sites join the National Register of Historic Places, 5 in the city and 16 in the county area. City : First National Bank, Morris Building, Barren County Board of Education, First Presbyterian Church, and Third National Bank.  County:  J Wooten House, William Page House, Rora Brown House, Jessie White, Landrum (L Adams), Asa Young, William Hicks, Frank Settle, J Mayfield, C Pen Edmunds, Old Zion Methodist Church, Benjamin Martin, Quigley Grocery, Andrew McCoy, William j Wood and Mentz Hotel.

G & K Harvester, located on S. Green Street near the Bypass, is now open. The business features John Deere lawn and garden and farm equipment. Kenneth Gentry is the manager.

June 19, 1983 –

Harry Chapman, WTVF News personality, will be the  EMCEE for the Miss Barren County Beauty Pageant.

June 21, 1983 –

Beth Paxton of Greensburg, won the title of Miss Barren County Fair Monday. Rodney Stephens and Kristie Samson were Little Mr. and Miss. Tiny Mr. and Miss were Brandon Forrest and Amanda Thompson.

June 22, 1983 –

James Charles Leech is awarded Eagle Rank in ceremonies held at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

June 26, 1983 –

Access Road to BCHS Constructions is underway. A joint venture between City and County road departments. The only entrance now is off Hwy. 249.

Howard Carey retires after 30 years of service to the Glasgow Stage ICF.

June 28, 1983 –

The Strikers, a recently formed women’s bowling team  from Glasgow will take part in the WIBC National tournament to be

held in Las Vegas. Members are Vivian Woodcock, Maxene Underwood, Margene Birge, Mary Lewis, Pat Zackery, and Arlene Lockhart.

June 30, 1983 —

Dr. Anthony W Flannery begins his practice here officially in July.
