Kentucky State Police, Post 13, Hazard, received a 911 call in reference to a two-vehicle injury collision on KY-932 in the Eolia Community of Letcher County on Friday, January 12. The collision involved a Letcher County school bus and tractor-trailer coal truck.

Multiple first responders from around the area responded to the scene. Ambulance crews transported twenty-two students and one adult to Whitesburg A.R.H for injuries sustained in the collision. Two students were later transferred to other hospitals to be treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a Letcher County School bus was traveling east bound on KY-932 with students from Arlie Boggs Elementary. A tractor-trailer coal truck was traveling west bound when the driver approached a curve, he crossed the center line to navigate the curve on the narrow roadway, making contact with the school bus. The collision caused the bus to leave its lane of travel and overturn down an embankment coming to rest on its side.

This incident remains under investigation by Trooper Branden Watts
