The Kentucky legislature is taking a closer look into synthetic or, AI media, to prevent any future election interference. Senate Bill 131 advanced from committee in a 10-1 vote. The bill would make it illegal to use synthetic media in political communications.
Synthetic Media is defined as “an image, audio recording or video recording of an identifiable person that has been digitally manipulated to create a realistic, but false understanding of that person’s appearance, action or speech.”
In a capitol update this week, Republican Senate Majority Leader Damon Thayer of Georgetown said he wished these laws would be handled at the federal level, instead of left to states.
