The Boys and Girls Club of Glasgow began a new chapter today at the organization’s new location off of Columbia Ave. The three story building will house students from both Barren County and Glasgow School districts and provides the organization with much needed to space to accommodate children involved.
Mallie Boston, CEO for the Glasgow-Barren County Boys and Girls Club couldn’t be happier with the new location, “We serve around 230 children in the area, and one thing we’ve struggled with in the past is the waiting list of 100 plus names of children waiting to be enrolled,” she said. “This new location will help us do what we need to and that’s serving all the children that we can.”
Boston explained that with the new location the added space is going to new programming to appeal to the increasingly diverse amount of interests that their children come with.
“We have a room dedicated to our e-sports club with tech equipment and gaming consoles for the kids to use, just as one example.”
Boston also pointed out that the club offers homework help for children struggling in school as well as a mentor program which allows students the opportunity to study with a young adult or high school aged tutor alleviating some pressure that students can feel by asking help from a teacher or administrator.
As excited as the children are to be at the new location, the staff are also very excited to see the fruits of their hard work.
“The staff here have put in their blood, sweat and tears, literally,” said Wade Copass, Boys and Girls Club Director.
“With all the new space and tools that we have now things are just going to get better.”
Registration is open to children from kindergarten to high school. Boston pointed out that the Boys and Girls website is currently undergoing maintenance with so she recommends for more information follow the Boys and Girls Facebook page, here.
