Joshua Fields, a 17-year-old from Glasgow, celebrated a significant milestone in his boxing career by winning his first match in Evansville, Indiana.
The victory marks the beginning of what promises to be a promising journey in the sport for the young athlete. Fields, like most young men, was having trouble finding a hobby that was challenging and rewarding enough to pursue, that is until he was introduced to boxing by a friend, as he explains.
Fields took WCLU through his experience in Evansville.
Fields has been training under the guidance of Dalton Newton, the owner and head coach of Ringside Elite Boxing in Glasgow. Newton’s expertise and dedication have played a crucial role in honing Fields’ skills and preparing him for competition.
The recent match in Evansville showcased Fields’ determination and hard work, as he delivered an impressive performance in the ring. Fields, a Junior at Glasgow High School, has been training for this moment since 2021, when he began his training. His win not only highlights his potential but also brings attention to the growing boxing community in Glasgow.
Fields is a standout in the sport in more than just his talent, but also in his age, as Newton explained that he was the youngest boxer to win a match under his tutelage.
Ringside Elite Boxing, where Fields trains, has become a hub for aspiring boxers in the region. The gym offers a supportive environment where athletes can develop their skills and pursue their passion for boxing. Newton explained that it is not uncommon for young fighters to want to jump directly into the ring, while ambition is no doubt a virtue in the sport, it needs to be tempered with discipline.
Fields’ victory is a testament to his commitment to the sport and the effective training regimen provided by Newton at Ringside Elite Boxing.
As Fields continues to build on this success, the local community eagerly anticipates his future achievements in the boxing arena.
