An outpouring of love and sympathy from first responders across the state happened overnight, in response to Russell County Sheriff’s Deputy John Phillips being fatally shot in the line of duty Monday night.
He was killed in the process of trying to apprehend a criminal.
“Our community has suffered a great loss tonight. I ask that you please keep our town, our county, and all of our first responders in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Please also lift up the men and women of the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the family and friends of the fallen officer. This tragedy has shaken us all, but together, we will find strength and comfort. Let us stand united as a community and support one another in the days ahead,” read a post from Russell County Fiscal Court on Facebook.
