Helen Frances Houk

Helen Frances Dowell Houk, age 96, of Horse Cave, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2024 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Ky. She lived in Horse Cave most of her life and was a member of the Horse Cave Baptist Church where she was an active member who contributed in many roles.

She was a part of the Gideon women’s auxiliary and the Homemakers Society for many years. She enjoyed knitting personalized Christmas stockings for family and friends. She volunteered often for the Caverna High School Band and a frequent Red Cross volunteer at the Methodist Church. She assisted her husband, Amos, at the Ben Franklin store for many years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Amos Christopher Houk; her parents, C.E. and Virginia Dowell; one sister, Margaret Lois Dowell Nelson.

She is survived by two sons, Leslie Bryan Houk and his wife, Tammy Kaye Houk, and Robert Dale Houk and his wife, Marysusan Miles Houk; four grandchildren, Virginia Mae Ball and her husband, Jason Ball, Scott Aaron Mancuso and his wife, Aimee Boswell Mancuso, Zachary Thomas Mancuso and his wife, Anna Lynette Rawls Mancuso, and Miles Christopher Houk; four great-grandchildren, Easton Mancuso, Elleanor Elaine Mancuso, Helen Ball, and Henry Ball.

Donations may be made in the form of donations to Gideons International.

Funeral services will be held at Winn Funeral Home on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 2 PM at Winn Funeral with burial to follow in the Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until time of service at 2 PM on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Winn Funeral Home.
