William R. “Butch” Phipps

By Mark Buckles Nov 20, 2024 | 11:22 AM

William R. “Butch” Phipps, age 79 of Beckton, KY peacefully departed this life in his sleep on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. The Lexington, TN native was born on August 1, 1945, to the late Alonzo and Narcie-Frances Phipps. He was married to the love of his life for fifty-three years, Martha Rogers Phipps, who survives.

Butch proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, completing three tours of duty. His commitment to his country exemplified the values he held dear: honor, dedication, and service. Following his military service, Butch transitioned into a successful career as a lineman and later as an engineer for South Central Telephone Cooperative. He tackled challenges with determination and skill, earning the respect of his colleagues and peers. He was an avid outdoorsman. Whether fishing or hunting, Butch found joy in every moment spent outside. In addition to his love for the outdoors, Butch was a sports fanatic, enthusiastically supporting his favorite teams.

Besides his wife, Martha, he leaves his family, that he cherished above all, to honor his memory– his children, Brad Phipps (Laura) of Greenville and Misti England (Anthony Cherry) of Mt. Herman; his grandchildren, Kaleb England, Katy Phipps, McKenzie England and Emma Phipps; his sister, Wanda Blankenship, along with twin great-grandchildren that are expected to arrive in 2025.

Interment will be in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
