Brenda Wyatt Whitlow and Martha Ann Jolly laughed as they molded clay into the shape of leaves. They were participating in Craft and Chat, a monthly program at the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library.
“It’s a good stress-reliever and you meet new people,” Jolly said, adding that Amy Tollison, adult services manager at the library, makes these events enjoyable regardless of a person’s skill level.
“I’m not very artsy-craftsy,” Jolly said with a smile. “But Amy here at the library makes me feel like I’m artsy-craftsy.
“I just enjoy the activities and it’s a very welcoming atmosphere.”
Whitlow agreed that crafting can relieve stress and that Tollison does an amazing job facilitating.
This particular crafting class was created after the Covid-19 pandemic, Tollison said, and that they try to make something different every month.
“I wanted something because people have been home,” she said. “They didn’t get to be social.
“I wanted something that would be very social, that would be fun for people.”
So that’s where the name “Craft and Chat” came about, Tollison added.
“We’re going to make a craft and we’re going to talk to each other and have a good time.”
Whitlow said this group makes more than just art.
“Making memories,” she said. “Meeting new people.
“We love the crafts.”
The next Craft and Chat session will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library.
