Virginia Adell Coates Poynter passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green with family by her side. She was born May 30, 1942, to Rev. Herbert and Clemmie Coates of Northtown. She was saved in October 1952 at Northtown United Baptist Church where she remained a faithful and lifelong member. She married James Everett Poynter on July 15, 1960. She worked at the sewing factory in Horse Cave and then as a cafeteria worker at Caverna Elementary for 24 years. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She loved gardening and working in her flowers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Clemmie Coates, sisters Mary Norman, Eldora & Clayton Adwell, Janetta & Earl Bunch, Elizabeth & Georgie Bush, and Tommie & Sonny Kerr.
She is survived by her husband James Poynter, children, JD (Jackie) Poynter of Park City and Joy (Derek) Curtis of Wingfied, Grandchildren, Dalton and Dakotah Curtis. Sisters Rosie (Wayne) Gentry; brothers David (Elaine) Coates, Clifford (Kim) Coates, brother-in-law Donald Norman, and several nieces, nephews and friends that will truly miss her.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the Northtown United Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the Northtown Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, from 2:00PM to 8:00PM at Winn Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, at the Northtown United Baptist Church from 9:00AM until the time of the service.
