While most of people were sleeping in, or ripping open holiday gifts, over 20 volunteers, including some of the shelter’s board of directors, went to Barren River Animal Welfare Association to provide special meals and walks to dogs still waiting to be adopted.

The special meals were approved by the shelter’s veterinarian and consisted of unseasoned turkey, green beans, and sweet potatoes.

Feast organizer Misty Hurt said that her father, Richard Hurt, spent three days cooking around eight turkeys for the animals at BRAWA, half of which were donated by Dwayne Withrow with Southgate Houchens.

Currently there are around 119 animals at BRAWA awaiting adoption.
