The National Weather Service in Louisville has placed Barren County, and all of Kentucky’s southern counties, in a winter storm warning from 6 p.m. on Feb. 18 to 11 a.m. on Feb. 19.

During this time, the weather service expects heavy snowfall with a total accumulation between 3 and 6 inches.

“Plan on slippery road conditions,” the weather service states. “The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning commute. Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing,…water and a first aid kit.”

A winter storm warning means “heavy snow of 6 inches in 12 hours, 8 inches in 24 hours or half an inch or more of sleet” is expected, according to the weather service, and “indicates the risk of a hazardous winter weather event has increased (at least a 50 percent chance of it occurring).”
