Cave City’s pickleball courts will soon be illuminated by new lights with the help of the Cave City Tourist and Convention Commission after members approved a $5,000 donation Monday afternoon during their regular monthly meeting.
The lights cost around $20,000 and will also be funded through private fundraising and a $5,000 donation from the city of Cave City, according to Cave City Mayor Dwayne Hatcher.
Vice Chair Sammye Jo Estes said the pickleball courts help promote a healthy lifestyle for all ages and these lights would improve safety for the area.
“I’m a huge supporter of the pickleball courts in Cave City,” Estes said. “If you’ve driven by there at any point in time, there’s anybody from 8-years-old to 75-years-old outside in our city playing.
“It promotes a healthy lifestyle in our community. It shows something that’s up-and-coming.”
Estes said the pickleball courts are also used for tournaments that draw new people to the area.
“Our tourists do play there as well,” she said. “I think it’s a true asset to our community.”
The commission also approved grant requests of $3,500 to Mammoth Valley Park for a digital sign and $3,500 to Cave City Cars and Coffee for marketing purposes.
In other business, the recently purchased fire alarm system for the Cave Area Conference Center has been installed “and everything is working well,” said Jennifer McNett, director of the commission, adding that the new lights for the parking lot have been ordered.
“We’re just waiting on everything to come in and they’ll be replaced soon,” she said.
