An unusual request came before the members of the Joint City-County Planning Commission during their Monday, March 17 meeting.

Planning Director Kevin Myatt said what was asked from the commissioners was not their approval for a permanent road, but rather a construction road that would extend roughly 8,400 feet from the end of Gardner Lane across the entirety of the newly annexed Mid-South Industrial Park, which is located between Interstate 65 and the railroad tracks in Cave City.

Myatt said the Kentucky Industrial Alliance, which owns the property, had a prospective tenant that wanted to locate at the back of the property which would necessitate that a construction roadway to be built. Due to the amount of ground the construction roadway would disturb — approximately 11 acres, according to Myatt — the plan had to get the commissioner’s approval.

The commissioners approved the construction roadway extending off Gardner Lane with the understanding that it was not adoptable by Cave City, and would not become an official street.

In other news, the commissioners approved an encroachment variance for a property in Barren County and presided over two public hearings regarding properties in Cave City and Glasgow. The property in Glasgow is beside the city-owned property on Cleveland Avenue; it went from a light industrial district to a highway service business district.
