Caverna High School will host a discussion on social media dangers.

The “Dangers of Social Media” presentation is scheduled March 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cave Area Conference Center. According to the district’s Family and Youth Services Center, some topics that will be discussed include basic technology rules, cyber-bullying, having vaults and fake accounts, sextortion, gaming online and making a police report.

The event is in partnership with T.J. Regional Health and Cyber Safe School, a program focused on educating students, parents, and educators about online threats.

Retired Detective Michael Lemon, who after 15 years “hunting online predators for his police department, state police and multiple federal task forces” created Cyber Safe School in 2018, will be presenting at the event.

“I’ve worked hundreds of these cases from embarrassing photos traveling all over the school to missing children traveling across the country with someone they just met online and a whole lot worse,” Lemon wrote on his website. “Giving students the skills to make good decisions online and parents the skills to keep their kids safe is the solution and my mission.”

School officials encourage parents and community members to attend, emphasizing the importance of awareness and digital safety in protecting students from online dangers.
