The Glasgow Police Department is warning people of a scam making the rounds in Barren County.

According to Public Information Officer Terry Flatt, the department “has received several calls from citizens” saying they have communicated with an individual claiming to be Sergeant Pickett with the Glasgow Police Department, who claimed to have an arrest warrant signed by district judge Gabe Pendleton and are “asking for money to clear the warrant.”

“This is a scam – the Glasgow Police Department does not have a ‘Sgt. Pickett’ and would never call asking for money or information,” the press release states. “If you receive a call claiming to be from law enforcement (like a “Sergeant”) stating you have a warrant and demanding payment, it’s almost certainly a scam; law enforcement will not call you to demand money or threaten arrest over the phone.”

If a person receives a scam call, the department advises to immediately hang up, not engage or provide additional information, report the scam and verify the call if possible. According to the department, scammers “may use the names of real law enforcement employees to sound more credible. Please call the Glasgow Police Department at 270-651-6165 if you have any questions. Do not provide any personal information.”
