The Barren County Trojans opened their baseball season on the day after the boys’ high school basketball team’s season ended in the semifinals of the Fourth Region Tournament.
An error in the top of the first inning set the Trojans on the path to an 8-2 loss to Taylor County. The Cardinals scored two runs with two outs. The third out came on a play at home after the two runs scored.
Barren clawed back a run in the bottom of the first inning. Jaxon Vincent drew a walk with one out. Vincent stole second and third, then scored on a single by Sutton Hyde.
The Cardinals added four more runs in the top of the second to take a 6-1 lead. Taylor County pushed its lead to 7-1 in the third inning, and to 8-1 in the sixth.
The Trojans scored its second run in the bottom of the sixth. Axel Dysholm led off with a walk, then moved to second on a single by Sutton Hyde. An error on a ball hit by Jordan Harris loaded the bases. Dysholm scored on a ground out by Aiden Keeney.
Skylar Potter started on the mound for Barren, and pitched 1.2 innings. Colten Wilson, Matthew Estes, Landon Uhles, JP Hyde and Sutton Hyde each also spent time on the mound.
