Eighty-four students from local high schools have been chosen for the Early College Class of 2027.

According to Western Kentucky University in Glasgow, students from seven area high schools “will begin an advanced academic journey during their junior year, studying alongside WKU students and their senior peers who are also enrolled in the program.” At the 2022 anniversary celebration WKU President Timothy Caboni announced the program saying students could earn up to 30 credits during their junior and senior years.

“We are not only providing students in this area with a head start, we’re providing them with the right start,” Caboni said at the anniversary celebration. “We carefully crafted this program to maximize Kentucky dual credit and work-ready scholarships.”

In 2023, the first cohort of program participants was announced, and now in its third year “the Early College program continues to thrive, with 153 students slated to participate in the program during the Fall 2025/Spring 2026 school year.”

The Early College program allows students to take college courses at WKU in Glasgow, tailored to their chosen Professional Career Tracks, the campus’s press release states.

“We are delighted to welcome the third cohort to our Early College program,” said Derick Strode, Director of Regional Campuses and Dual Credit. “These students are selected based on academic performance and maturity to take on the responsibility of college expectations, and we are honored to collaborate with local high schools to provide them with this transformative educational opportunity.”
