Lottie Rebekah Peden Buffington, beloved sister, aunt, and a cherished member of her community, passed away on March 21, 2025, at the Medical Center of Bowling Green. Born on April 29, 1929, in Glasgow, Kentucky, to the late Herbert Thomas Peden and the late Genie Beckham Houchens Peden. Lottie lived a life characterized by her deep love for family and her unwavering commitment to helping others.
A proud graduate of Temple Hill High School, Lottie began her career as a clerk and typist at Burrough Corporation in Detroit, Michigan. She was known for her kind smile and outgoing personality, traits that endeared her to many. Lottie’s contributions extended beyond her professional life; she was an active member of the South Green Church of Christ and participated in various organizations that bettered her community, including the Habitat for Humanity, the Homemakers Club, and the DAVA Chapter 20, where she took great pride in their mission.
Lottie is survived by her loving brother Billy Joe Peden and a host of nieces and nephews, including Robert Peden (Janice), Lori Turner, Mary Oakes, Sandy Houchens (Mike), Eric Peden, Diane Miller (Paul), Lisa Peden, Rena Peden, and special great nephews Brian Turner (Vicki) and Brad Turner (Katina), along with several great nieces, nephews, and extended family who remember her with great affection.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 33 years, Walter Lee Buffington, and her siblings: Ralph Peden, Mary Turner, Stella Peden, and James Peden. She also mourned the loss of her nephews Steve Peden, Charles Turner, and Jimmy Peden.
Lottie’s life was one of purpose, compassion, and commitment. Her spirit will continue to shine through the lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Visitation will be held on March 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at A.F Crow & Son Funeral Home located at 201 East Washington St., Glasgow, Kentucky. Interment will take place the following day on March 26, 2025, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville, Georgia, at 3:00 PM.
