The Glasgow Police Department announced traffic safety checkpoints beginning April 4 and lasting until April 30.
Columbia Avenue, West Main Street, North Jackson Highway and Happy Valley Road are just some of the traffic checkpoint locations, the department states. During the checkpoints, police officers “will be enforcing laws related to operating a motor vehicle,” including operating a vehicle “while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, licensing of motor vehicles and operators, registration and insurance, seat belt and child restraint and motor vehicle equipment violations.”
“Traffic Safety Checkpoints are a valuable tool used to promote the safety and well-being of the public as well as providing police with visibility and interaction within the community,” the department press release states. “Checkpoints are utilized throughout the commonwealth to help promote highway safety.”
At the same time, the Kentucky State Police Post 3 reminded people of its traffic safety checkpoints. The Barren County checkpoint locations include U.S. 31W at the Edmonson County line, the Hart County line, and Ky. 255; U.S. 31E and Ky. 255; U.S. 31E and Jack Turner Road; U.S. 68 and Ky. 255; Ky. 70 and Ky. 314, Ky. 255 and Ky. 740 in Hiseville; Ky. 1846 and Old Lexington Road; Ky. 249 about a half-mile from Glasgow’s city limits and Ky. 249 at the Monroe County line.
“Our agency strives daily to ensure the safety of the motoring public,” Post 3 states. “Some of these proactive measures include various traffic safety checkpoints and saturating known problematic areas in the district through general patrol tactics. The intent of a traffic safety checkpoint is to provide for a high visibility, public safety service, focusing on operator impairment, vehicular equipment deficiencies…and the valid licensing of drivers.”
