Jimmy Dale “Jim” Hollis, 82, of Segal passed away peacefully- supported and surrounded by his loving family- March 29, 2025 at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville.
Born November 29, 1942 in Alton, MO, Jim was the epitome of hard work, dedication and love. As a skilled toolmaker, he spent many years building and fabricating tools at the General Motors Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green. Prior to his time at the Corvette plant, he also worked in the Illinois cities of Herrin, O’Fallon and Potone, as well as St. Louis, MO and New Mexico. He took immense pride in his craft and has left a lasting impression in his trade. He was a member of UAW Local 2146 and Red Hill General Baptist Church. His dedication and drive was to build and provide a legacy for his family- including his farms. Beyond his work, Jim was a devoted husband to Janet, a loving father to Jimmy and Jay, and a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
An avid outdoorsman, Jim found joy in cattle farming, fishing and hunting. He found a passion for creating hand-made items, like baskets and nets. He was always happiest when visiting with and surrounded by his family.
Jim was preceded in death by his in-laws, Dorothy and Robert Luckert; his parents, Eddie Nicholas Hollis and Doyle Hollis; a son, Jimmy Dale Hollis Jr.
Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday April 7, 2025 at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Red Hill Cemetery, which will be followed by an open house with family and friends to show their love and support at The Heritage Center at 503 Washington St. in Brownsville. Visitation will take place 2:00-7:00 PM Sunday and after 9:00 AM Monday.
His life and memory are honored by his wife, Janet K. Hollis; a son, Jay Hollis (April); grandchildren, Whitney Hollis, Brent Hollis (Binh), Jasmaine Theobald (Eric), Emily Alferio (Tony), Jamison Hollis, Dinara Duncan (Tanner), Jonathan Hollis (Kailee), James Hollis (Madison) and Amelia Chan Hollis; great grandchildren, Skylar Hollis, Corbin Hollis, Mia Hollis, Olivia Hollis, Jacob Hollis, Abigail Hollis, Elijah Hollis, Audrey Theobald, Caleb Theobald, Conner Theobald, Aria Theobald, Tony “Little Tony” Alferio and Kennedy Hollis; siblings, Herb Hollis (Helen), Nick Hollis (Linda), John Hollis (Vicki) and Gail Matthews; an aunt, Mildred Sullivan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
