Wilma Sanders, age 95, of Cedar Springs, departed this life on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at her residence. The Edmonson County native was born on December 8, 1929, to the late Hobart and Flora Reynolds Houchin. She was married to her devoted husband, Deward Sanders, until they were parted by his passing on July 27, 2007.
Wilma, who enjoyed a fulfilling career at Philip Morris Tobacco, embraced retirement with grace and joy. She was a member of New Liberty Methodist Church, where she found a sense of community and purpose. In her free time, she indulged her creative passions, delighting in the intricate art of quilting, the whimsical craft of basket weaving, and the sweet satisfaction of cake decorating. Each activity reflected her warmth and creativity, leaving a lasting impression on those around her.
She leaves to honor her memory— her daughter, Peggy Meador (Jim) of Louisville; granddaughters, Hollie Canterbury and Nicole Wardle (Jesse); great grandchildren, Tevin McAtee, Isaiah McAtee (Brooklyn), Ava Canterbury and Ivy Wardle, and great great-grandchildren, Maleah, Jaden and Reya McAtee. Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, George “Tubby” Houchin, Idell Howard Houchin and Mildred Rutherford.
Memorial contributions can be made to: Parkinson’s Foundation, 5757 Waterford District Drive, Suite 310, Miami, FL 33126.
The interment will be in Rocky Hill Cemetery.
