Alice Susanne Norman, 81, Glasgow, passed away Friday, April 4, 2025 at the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home.  A native of Barren County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph “Jodie” Norman and Alice Florene Smith Norman.

Susanne was a 1963 graduate of Glasgow High School after which she attended and graduated from Norton’s School of Nursing.  She spent her entire career as a Registered Nurse, beginning with the Barren County Health Department.  The vast majority of her career was connected with the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.  Her latter duties at the university saw her as assistant to Dr. Jacqueline Noonan, chair of the Department of Pediatric Cardiology.  Susanne spent numerous hours coordinating regional heart clinics throughout most of eastern Kentucky.  During those years she came to know and love numerous hundreds of children along with their families.  In 2004, she was named the “Duchess of Hazard”. In 2009, she was the recipient of the Golden Stitches Award presented by Kentucky Children’s Hospital to employees “whose work is making a difference in the lives of children.”  Dr. Noonan stated “She is truly a child advocate and a caring compassionate nurse who had dedicated her life to caring and loving other people’s children.”  She dearly cherished all of those relationships.  While in Lexington, she was a member of the Crestwood Christian Church and later the Southland Christian Church.  After retirement with more than 50 years of nursing, she moved back to her hometown of Glasgow where she renewed her membership at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

In addition to her parents, Susanne was preceded in death by her two sisters: Betty Jo Norman Smith and her husband George Basil Smith of Indianapolis, and Judy Carole Norman High of Glasgow.

Susanne is survived by three nieces: Lisa Smith Croft and husband Ken, Katie Smith Lester and husband Trent all of Indiana, and Susie High Lucas and husband Byron of Glasgow; two nephews: Joseph Ray Smith and wife Ellen of Indiana, and David Brents Norman High and wife Bhavini of Lexington; her brother-in-law, Tommy G. High of Glasgow; two special friends and former co-workers at UK: Mary Varnell of Flemingsburg, KY and Grace Florence of Lexington; along with several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Kentucky Children’s Hospital.  Arrangements entrusted to Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.
