Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library now offers a registered apprenticeship for employees.
“We are the first library in this country to have this registered apprenticeship,” said Ami Sandell, library director. “It’s a way to make sure our employees are trained to national standards.”
Sandell said this apprenticeship program was a great way to “ensure that the library and library employees are meeting community needs through education and on the job training.”
Aside from the proficiency her employees will gain through the program, Sandell said this is another way to offer some thanks for their work.
“Being able to offer this credential is also a way to say ‘we see what you’ve done, we see the work you’ve put in to make sure you know how to do your job, we see the work you’re putting into your community,” she said.
Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said she was “incredibly proud” of the team behind this program, adding that being the first library with this honor “showcases the transformative ideas that can start right here at home.”
