Peggy Lou Shive Walden

Apr 7, 2025 | 1:17 PM

Peggy Lou Shive Walden, age 81 of Hiseville, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at NHC HealthCare in Glasgow, KY. The Barren County native was born on February 14, 1944, to the late Otha and Ruby Sparks Shive. She was married to her beloved husband, Larry Glenn Edwards, until they were parted by his passing on September 5, 1973.

Peggy leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, hard work, and a deep commitment to her family, community and church. As a cherished member of Center United Methodist Church, she demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience throughout her life and its challenges, holding steadfast to her faith and always maintaining an unwavering relationship with the Lord.

Growing up in a dairy farming family, one of Peggy’s greatest joys was witnessing her granddaughter continue this respected tradition within the Hiseville community. With a dedicated career spanning twenty-five years as an assembly line worker, Peggy later spent five years providing compassionate care for the elderly at Home Instead Senior Care, inspiring all who knew her. Additionally, Peggy took great pride in the family home she built alongside her late husband. She found joy in gardening and nurturing her beautiful flowers, and her love for her cats, Butterscotch and Love, brought her comfort and companionship. As a University of Kentucky basketball enthusiast, she delighted in cheering for the Wildcats, and was especially proud when her daughter became an alumna who positively influenced the children in their community as a high school teacher at Barren County High School.

She leaves to honor her memory— her daughter, Marilyn L. Edwards-Barrick (Mark); a brother, Jimmy Shive (Rita); granddaughter, Megan Bailey-Komar (Josh); step grandson, Blake Barrick (Hattie); great-grandchildren, Bailey and Tate Komar; sisters-in-law, Joy Shive and Barbara Evans, along with twenty nieces and nephews and forty-one great nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by, her siblings, J.O. Shive and Evelyn Anderson, and granddaughter, Molly Anne Bailey.

The interment will be in Hiseville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Hiseville Cemetery Fund, c/o James Morrison.
