Barren County’s first game in Florida resulted in a 5-2 loss to Tampa Catholic.
Catholic jumped ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning and the Trojans did not recover. They did have a couple of shots in the top of the second.
Gavin Coffey led off and reached base on an error. Aiden Keeney followed with a single, but Coffey was thrown out at third. Jax Vincent entered to run for Keeney, and advanced to second on a single by Price Thompson. Vincent stole third, then scored on a catcher’s error.
After an out, JP Hyde singled and Thompson moved to third, but the threat ended on a strike out.
Barren clipped the lead to 3-2 in the top of the third.
Sutton Hyde led off with a single. After an out, he moved to second on a ground out by Jordan Harris. Sutton Hyde scored on a double by Coffey.
Tampa Catholic added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the third to set the final score.
Four pitchers for Barren County allowed only four hits, but they also gave up six walks, and the defense committed three errors. Matthew Estes, Dylan Poynter, Jacob Spence and Landon Uhles saw time on the mound.
At the plate, JP Hyde and Sutton Hyde each had three hits, while Jackson Reece, Coffey, Keeney and Thompson each also had a hit.
