Four students from Glasgow and Barren County high schools recently placed at the Governor’s Cup State Championship at the Galt House in Louisville, according to official event results on the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition website.
Glasgow’s Mary Kate Vance tied for first place in the state in Language Arts, missing only one out of 60 questions. Vance is the first individual state champion in school history, sharing this year’s top honors with Russell’s Ahya Farhat and Paul G. Blazer’s Anna Bocook.
Barren County’s Alana Houchens won eighth place in Composition, making her one of three Barren County students to place in the state competition since 1986.
Glasgow’s Danica Ingram placed sixth in Arts and Humanities, William Vargas finished in a tie for 10th place in Science with Paul G. Blazer’s Zack Dillon and Vance tied for 10th place in Arts and Humanities with June Buchanan’s Austin Moore.
After advancing to the playoff rounds in Quick Recall, Glasgow fell to Russell, the eventual state champions.
