In the Glasgow Scotties’ first game in Florida, they topped Washington County, 6-4.
A big second inning proved decisive.
Evan Templin led off the inning with a single. JP Pitcock entered to run for Templin. Hudson Gumm followed with a single that moved Pitcock to second. Braylen Caldwell dropped a bunt and beat out the throw to load the bases.
Garett Shields followed and drove in Pitcock with a single. With the bases still loaded, Bam Nolley drove in Gumm with a sacrifice fly. Landon Martin followed with a bunt single. Caldwell scored on an error on the bunt, and Shields followed him across the plate. Martin eventually scored on a single by Carter Hodges.
The Commanders cut the lead to 5-4 in the bottom of the third, before the Scotties added an insurance run in the top of the fifth when Josiah Driver stole home.
Glasgow posted 12 hits in the game. Hodges, Templin, and Steven Garrett each had two hits. Driver, Gumm, Caldwell, Shields, Nolley and Martin each posted a hit.
Templin started on the mound and allowed four hits. Garrett closed and allowed one hit and struck out one.
