Members of Glasgow High School’s Technology Student Association recently traveled to Louisville to compete against students from across the commonwealth during the organization’s state conference. Several Scotties took home awards, according to official results from the competition.

Micah Muhlenkamp, Shallen Fields and Jadie Stahl captured first place in the Manufacturing Prototype event, beating out ILEAD Academy and Larry A. Ryle High School, who placed second and third, respectively. The three Glasgow students were also Top 12 finalists in Board Game Design.

Gracie Lei Sam and Emma Jessee took top honors in Audio Podcasting, edging out Paul Laurence Dunbar and Russell County high schools on the podium.

“It is one of my most favorite clubs I’ve ever done,” said Micah Muhlenkamp, president of the high school’s TSA chapter. “It has any kind of event you can think of, from video game design, architectural model, board game design — there’s so many different options.

“It’s not just engineering. It’s trying to bring together all of the different aspects of technology, engineering, computer science, and it’s just a really good way for kids who are interested in those things to really get the hands-on, fun aspect while you’re still in high school.”

JR Dakin, who oversees Glasgow’s engineering program, said Muhlenkamp does an excellent job in her leadership role.

“She leads students,” Dakin said. “She’s always putting out a helping hand to anybody, willing to lead in any capacity that she can.”
