RECAP: Trojans split with De Mortagne

Barren County split a pair of games on its last day in Tampa, Florida. The Trojans beat De Mortagne 8-5 in Game 1, and lost 2-0 in Game 2.

In the first game, the Trojans jump ahead 3-0 through the top of the second inning, before De Mortagne scored four runs in the bottom of the second. They added their fifth run in the bottom of the fifth before Barren rallied.

The Trojans tied the game at 5-all with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. With two outs, Price Thompson nailed a single to get the rally started. Cameron Crawford entered to run for Thompson, and moved to third on a single by Jordan Harris.

Harris stole second during Gavin Coffey’s at-bat to put runners at second and third. Crawford eventually scored on an error at second, and Harris moved to third. Coffey drove in Harris with a pop fly to third that was misplayed. Those two runs tied the game at 5-5.

Barren took the lead for good in the top of the seventh.

Jackson Reece led off with a single. Sutton Hyde followed and drew a walk. After an out, Aiden Keeney loaded the bases with a single.

Joey Meyers followed a drew a walk, which scored Reece, and kept the bases loaded. Landon Uhles entered to run for Keeney at second base. Thompson drove in Sutton Hyde by drawing a walk before Harris single and scored Uhles to set the final score.

Harris led at the plate with four hits, while Reece posted three, and Keeney and Thompson each had two hits. JP Hyde also posted a hit in the game.

Matthew Estes and Jacob Spence combined on the mound to allow seven hits, and strike out three.

Trojans 0, De Martagne 2

In the second game, Barren gave up a run in the top of the first and another in the top of the seventh. The Trojans attempted to rally in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t plate a run.

Axel Dysholm led off the seventh with a single. After an out, Meyers nailed a single that moved Dysholm to second. After a second out, Harris singled to load the bases. The game ended on the next at-bat when Jax Vincent hit a ground ball to third and Dysholm was thrown out at home.

Meyers led the Trojans at the plate with two hits. JP Hyde, Reece, Dysholm and Harris each also had a hit.

Dylan Poynter pitched five innings, allowed eight hits and struck out six. Uhles closed the final two innings, allowed no hits and struck out two.
