Threat Against Judicial Official Leads to Lockdown at Elizabethtown Schools

By Mark Buckles Aug 29, 2024 | 7:22 AM

A serious threat against a local judicial official led to swift action by law enforcement and prompted a temporary lockdown at Elizabethtown Independent Schools on Wednesday, August 28. The incident unfolded shortly before noon when police received information that a suspect, identified as Kelron Decoteau, 37, had made a direct threat.

Recognizing the potential danger and its connection to the Elizabethtown Independent Schools, authorities immediately notified the school district.

In response, the district enacted its soft lockdown procedures to ensure the safety of students and staff. In a release from the Elizabethtown Police Department, the swift implementation of these measures was praised, with officials emphasizing that at no time were any students or staff members in jeopardy.

Law enforcement agencies, dedicating full resources to the situation, quickly tracked down Decoteau.

By approximately 3:00 PM, Kentucky State Police from Post 15 in a neighboring county successfully apprehended the suspect. Decoteau faces charges of Intimidating a Participant in a Legal Process and Terroristic Threatening in the Third Degree.

He is expected to be transferred to the Hardin County Detention Center.

The quick response by both law enforcement and the school district ensured that the threat was neutralized without incident.
