Terry Joe Sanders

By Mark Buckles Nov 17, 2024 | 4:56 PM

Terry Joe Sanders, age 71 of Mammoth Cave, departed this life on Friday, November 15, 2024, at his residence. The Jefferson County native was born on July 6, 1953, to the late Daphna Kidwell Sanders Pack and Japath Sanders. He was married to his beloved wife of 50 years, Kathleene Duvall Sanders, who survives.

Terry Joe dedicated many years of his life to his career, retiring as a machine operator from Phillip Morris. Following his retirement, he worked at Dart Container, Nolin State Park, and as part of the mowing crew for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. His work ethic and commitment to his responsibilities were evident throughout his career. In addition to his professional endeavors, Terry Joe had a farming background, where he cultivated tobacco and raised cattle until health issues prevented him from continuing. He found joy in simpler pleasures, often indulging in bargain shopping at auction houses and enjoying the thrill of piddling in junk. However, his greatest delight came from spending cherished moments with his family, which he held dear throughout his life.

His faith was most important to him. He served as a trustee at Hill Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained a faithful member until the Lord called him home. He was also a member of the Cub Run Masonic Lodge #910 F&AM.

Besides his wife, Kathleene, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Joseph Sanders and Melissa Sanders; his beloved grandchildren, Whitney and Heather Sanders, and James Grant Newkirk; his brother, Darrell (Deborah) Sanders, and stepfather, Ronald N. Pack.

Interment will be in Hill Grove Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Hill Grove Cemetery Fund, c/o Gary Bagshaw.
