Jimmy Brooks, age 72, of Louisville, KY, passed away peacefully on Monday, (December 2, 2024).
Born on March 12, 1952, in Louisville, Jimmy was the cherished son of the late Homer and Joyce (Burnett) Brooks. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Layton, James, and Michael.
Jimmy’s spirit lives on through his loving wife of 20 years, Kim Brooks, and his devoted children, Angela (Joey) Kaelin, Kelly Austin, and Ryne Ray. He took immense pride in being a grandfather to Austin (Haley) Wiehebrink, Kinley (Nolan) Kaelin, Joey Kaelin, and Robert Austin. Also he leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of friends who will miss him dearly.
A true patriot, Jimmy honorably served our nation during the Viet Nam War as a proud member of the U.S. Army. His dedication extended beyond his service, as he was a lifetime member of the VFW # 1181. After a fulfilling 25 year career at LG&E, Jimmy embrace retirement with enthusiasm, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved watching classic westerns, particularly “Gunsmoke”, attending classic car shows, and, most importantly, spending time surrounded by family.
Jimmy is remembered for his generous spirit, he was a man who never met a stranger and always made those around him feel welcomed. His caring nature left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
To celebrate Jimmy’s Remarkable life, friends and family are invited to gather on Thursday, December 12, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Southwest Louisville Chapel (10304Dixie Hwy). A heartfelt celebration of life will be held at 6:00 p.m. that evening. On Friday, December 13, the family will welcome guests from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. CST at Dermitt Funeral Home (306 West Main Street Leitchfield, KY) where a funeral service will promptly follow. Jimmy will be laid to rest at New Hope Cemetery (3773 Falls of Rough Rd, Caneyville, KY) honored with military rites.
