In addition to discussing sending out a request for proposals on Park City’s amphitheater and drive-in, the Administration and Property committee discussed hiring a federal lobbyist to get federal funds for Barren County’s agriculture center in Cave City and the water treatment expansion at the Narrows, which sells water to Allen County.
On the Agriculture Expo Center project, Byrd said, the lobbyist believed he could get a third of the cost, which, according to previous reporting, is estimated to be about $40 million.
Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd did not name the lobbyist during the committee meeting but said Hart County had an additional project they wanted included, which brings the lobbyist’s monthly fee to $6,500.
No action was taken at the committee meeting. The discussions mainly revolved around the amounts each entity — Barren, Hart and Allen counties, and the Glasgow Water Company — would pay for the lobbyist’s monthly fee.
Informally, the members of the committee said the county’s maximum contribution to the monthly fee would be $2,000.
Byrd said the lobbyist likely wouldn’t start working until after the inauguration on Jan. 20, though there was consensus among the committee members to get working on this as soon as possible.
