Genevie Phillips Johnson, age 94, of Tampa, Florida, passed away March 22, 2025. She was born to the late Coy Phillips and Evelyn Phillips on September 29, 1930 in Hart County Kentucky. She was married on December 12, 1945 to Robert H. Johnson who preceded her in death. Genevie was a servant of the Lord and was active in the many churches her husband pastored, and always made a home for them wherever they were. In recent years, she became a member of the Forrest Hills Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed the fellowship of the Forrest Hills Women’s Craft Group. Using her hobbies of sewing and crafting to benefit many worthy causes the Church sponsored. Genevie began her teaching career in 1958 at Hart Memorial School, later teaching in Warren County, Ky, Mercer County, Ky and more recently in Florida; over her 34 year career, she influenced the lives of many students.
Besides her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two great-grandsons, Jacob Neal Kennemer and Levi Richard Hughes.
She is survived by two daughters, Marcia Ann Johnson Hughes and son-in-law, Richard Hughes; Sharon Kay Johnson Carpenter and son-in-law, Charles Carpenter; seven grandchildren, Todd Gritton, Scarla Hahn (Dwayne), Shannon Kennemer (Brian), Holly Young (Mark),Jonathan R. Hughes (Nicole), Cindy Burchfield (Terry), and Missy Carpenter; nine great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00AM CST on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery.
Donations be made to the Phillips Cemetery Fund, in care of Amy Lindsey (349 Three Springs Hwy. Hardyville, Ky 42746), or to the Gideons International.
