Gardening enthusiasts and those interested in the hobby will have the opportunity to network and learn about various related topics this weekend in Glasgow.
The Barren County Homemakers will be hosting a “Plant & Seed Swap” from 9 a.m. to noon this Saturday, April 12, at the Barren County Extension Office.
Participants will be able to trade or buy seeds and plants during this event, which will also include bee, butterfly and bird exhibits, a poison hemlock — an invasive species — exhibit and hands-on activities.
Edie Bell, publicity chairman for the Barren County Homemakers, said club members have dug up and potted hundreds of plants that will be for sale or trade.
For those who don’t bring plants to trade, seed packets and small plants will be sold for $1, while large plants will be $3.
Bell said children are welcome at this family event.
“If you have kids that are coming with you, we have one of the homemakers that has an activity just for them for the whole time,” she said.
Some of the available items will include: bulbs, herbs, ground covers, annuals, vegetables, perennials, house plants and potted wildflowers.
Bell added that for those who purchase any plants marked as an “annual,” it would be a good idea to keep them inside until the end of April, “when the danger of frost is over.”
“Then you can plant it outside,” she said. “That’s the rule about annuals, you just can’t put them out. They’ll freeze.”
