Barren County Clerk Helena Chase Birdwell encourages residents to sign up for Software Management’s Doc Alert System, which aims to warn people of possible fraudulent property activity.

Available for free on the county clerk’s website, Doc Alert is a “tool designed to help protect you from fraudulent activity related to property transactions on deeds, mortgages and encumbrances” that sends people “an email update whenever a deed or mortgage is filed in your name [with] each alert includ[ing] the time and date of the filing.”

Birdwell initially brought up a property fraud alert system at the Jan. 21 Barren County Fiscal Court meeting where she requested the magistrates “pause” the vote to enter into the contract with Fidlar Technologies, citing the clerk’s office recording firm, Software Management, had a pilot program they would offer to the county at no charge.

She said with this Doc Alert available, Barren County had become the second county in the state to use Software Management’s system.
