LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Police say an officer responding to a report of a man with a gun in central Kentucky shot and wounded him. Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers says the officer found a man Friday morning matching the description of the armed person and ordered him to stop and show his hands. Weathers said the man refused and fled. He said there was a brief foot pursuit and the officer, who is white, fired on the Black man, who was taken to a hospital for treatment. The reason the officer fired will be part of the investigation, but Weathers says it appears he followed protocol.
