Elva Lois Dennison

Elva Lois Dennison, of Cave City, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at Signature Health Care of Hart County. She was 95 years old and was born April 15, 1925 in Edmonson County, Kentucky, the middle daughter of Rev. Irvin Kidwell and Frona Elmore Kidwell.

Elva was a licensed practical nurse having graduated from the Chicago School of Nursing. In her early years she worked as a nurse for Dr. Turner in Cave City and then later in pediatrics at T.J. Samson Community Hospital. After she married she became a homemaker and later retired from Mallory Capacitor in Glasgow. After retirement and when her granddaughter Amy started school, Elva enjoyed volunteering for her granddaughter’s teachers at Caverna Elementary and she especially enjoyed working in the lunchroom at lunch time, assisting the smaller children with their lunch.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Dennison; sisters, Ethel Poynter and Oma Ray; half brother, Darrell Strode; step-granddaughter, Christy Holoman; son-in-law, Steve Jolly.

Elva was saved on September 4, 1940 during revival at Servant Valley United Baptist Church in which her father, Rev. Irvin Kidwell was the pastor along with Rev. Courtland Sanders helping in the revival. She joined Servant Valley United Baptist Church along with her sisters Ethel and Oma and Many friends and was baptized by Rev. Sanders. Later in November 1946 she moved her membership to Basil Chapel United Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until her death.

Elva and James Dennison were married September 30, 1950 in Horse Cave, Kentucky by Rev. Manson Wells. They had two children, Steve Allen Dennison and Reva Eileen Dennison (Jolly).

Surviving are her children, Steve Dennison (Melody) of Leigh Acres, FL and Reva Jolly of Cave City. Also surviving is her granddaughter, Amy Marie Jolly Burris (John) and great-grandson Jacob Allen Jolly all of Glasgow. She is further survived by her nephews, Dennis Poynter (Judy) and Leron Poynter both of Cave City, Danny Ray (Sandy) of Florida and Derick Strode (Cameron) of Bowling Green; one niece, Michele Strode of Bowling Green; she is also survived by her beloved cat, Tommy.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. CST Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Basil Chapel United Baptist Church under the direction of Winn Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Cave City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Winn Funeral Home and again on Sunday morning from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. there after leaving in procession for the church.
