GLASGOW, Ky. – Two bids to demolish the former Barren County Corrections Center were received Friday by a committee of the Barren County Fiscal Court.
The court hired RBS Design Group several weeks ago to oversee the project. The group missed an essential advertising publication deadline, apparently.
RBS Design Group’s mistake required the court to restart the bidding process for the building’s demolition.
Bids opened Friday include one from CRS Construction and another from Scott & Ritter – the company who cast a lower bid the second time bids were advertised.
CRS Construction, Inc. cast a bid for $99,999.99. Scott & Ritter cast a bid worth $85,000.
The jail demolition is funded in whole by a grant from BRADD. The stipulations of the grant require the court to accept the lowest bidder.
The initial bids were made public after the advertising window closed. The mishap in the advertising enabled Scott & Ritter to cast a lower bid than the first company who was awarded the project. The move made some on the court unhappy.
“It wasn’t our fault at all, but it’s just not good business as far as I’m concerned,” said committee chairperson, Tim Coomer. “We have to do what we have to do.”
The second round of bids were discarded and a third window opened. Those bids were the ones received Friday.
The committee recommended Scott & Ritter be awarded the demolition project. The Barren fiscal court must move to accept the committee’s recommendation at its meeting Tuesday.
