EIGHTY EIGHT — A project to upgrade a portion of Burkesville Road in Barren County has started.
The project will improve and widen Kentucky 90 from Kentucky 839, which is locally known as Nobob Road, to the Metcalfe County line. The four-mile section of KY 90 will feature upgrades to the current road as well as a new alignment.
The road will still feature two travels lanes, but will have a two foot paved shoulder in both directions. Sight distance, slopes, ditching, and drainage will also be improved along the route, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
A new alignment around the Eighty-Eight community will also be constructed. Motorists can expect minimal traffic impacts during the winter months as most of the work is being done off the roadway. As construction progresses traffic impacts can be expected. Information about the impacts will be sent out as that information becomes available.
The construction project contract was awarded to Scotty’s Contracting & Stone, LLC, in August of 2021, in the amount of $14,067,824.65. The project is expected to be completed by summer of 2023.
